District #6 Newport Beach Councilman 2006 Current Endorsement List Question & Answer with Dick Dick Nichols Photo Gallery Dick Nichols Re-Election Flier Dick Nichols is a residentially oriented incumbent, seeking reelection to the Newport Beach City Council. Currently he serves on the Newport Beach, Aviation, Environmental Quality, Oil Field, and Orange County Flood Control Committees. Dr. Nichols was recently elected to the OC Republican Central Committee. l Dick Nichols is a property rights activist. He believes a property’s zoning should be honored. A persons or a communities zoning should not be lowered unless a super majority of the concerned property owners consent. Variances should be uniform and not encroach on neighbors rights. Proposed plans, operating conditions, and variances, should be available for perusal of neighbors. l Traffic is a problem everywhere and must be addressed by reapplying the weakened Traffic Phasing Ordinance to all intersections. Zoning gift rights are worth nearly $100/sq ft. Greenlight should prevent large zoning development gifts, which negatively affect the surrounding community. l John Wayne Airport will reach its design capacity in the next few years under the proposed extension agreement. Flight noise and numbers must not be permitted to increase. Alternate airports, as El Toro would have been, with noise setbacks, need to be developed.
